An educator for 35 years, Supervisor Medina saw firsthand how education empowers individuals to build better futures. His passion for supporting students beyond the classroom inspired him to pursue public office. He was first elected to the Jurupa Unified School District Board of Education and later served three successful terms on the Riverside Community College District Board of Trustees.

In 2012, he was elected to the California State Assembly, representing the 61st Assembly District, which included the cities of Riverside, Moreno Valley, Perris, and the unincorporated community of Mead Valley. Serving five successful terms, he was a steadfast advocate for students, teachers, families, and the Inland Empire, championing legislation and securing critical funding for higher education, healthcare access, affordable housing, the arts, and social justice initiatives.

Over his tenure, he introduced over 150 legislative measures and helped deliver more than $250 million from the State Budget to the 61st Assembly District. His efforts funded key projects such as UC Riverside and its School of Medicine, the Cesar Chavez Community Center, the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art, Culture & Industry, Foss Field Park, Harada House, Mission Heritage Plaza, and the Trujillo Adobe.

Now serving on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Medina remains dedicated to fostering economic growth, supporting small businesses and families, and ensuring a prosperous future for all Riverside County residents.

A lifelong resident of Riverside County, Supervisor Medina is a proud UC Riverside alumnus, holding a bachelor’s degree in Latin American Studies and a master’s degree in history. He has two adult children and two grandchildren and currently resides in Riverside with his wife, Linda.
